“Orbits” for 80 Trombones at the Guggenheim

The rotunda of the Frank Lloyd Wright’s Guggenheim Museum played host to a performance of “Orbits” for 80 trombones, soprano and organ by the Montreal-born American composer Henry Brant.   The composer regarded space as the fourth dimension of music, along with pitch, time and timbre.  His vision,  to have players surround the audience, was realized at the Guggenheim where trombonists lined the spiralling walkway playing to the audience on the floor of the rotunda.  NYT
