MCA Extension

The MCA in Sydney today announced plans for its extension by Sam Marshall. Lets see if it fairs better than the tabletop winning competition entry by Sauerbruch and Hutton from 2001.

I like that the press are trying to tag it as the ‘Rubiks Cube’; apparently and staggeringly never having seen a Rubik’s Cube…

Not in keeping with Circular Quay. Not is keeping with the original building. Not imaginative. Not art.It will not grow on anybody over time. Lacking in imagination old fashioned and boring.
I am not an architect but I could have designed something better .I appreciate the MCA visit often and have interest in contemporary art.
This not an extension it is an add on and obviously an add on.The original building has symmetry and is an honest expression of its era. This add on is a construction. It lacks honesty it is simply a contrivance with no roots attachment or sympathy for the original structure the surrounds that it is supposed to blend in with. A boring effort is not expected but in an attempt to be different the architect has created an anomaly that is an eyesore. The iriny is this attempt to be differednt has resulted in a building that is the same as so many constructed in the last century it is dated before it is built.

The irony is that I spelt irony incorrectly and different but the comment remains.Better use my spell checker at such an early hour next time.
