Barkow Leibinger Architects have been named as the second recipient of the Marcus Prize of $100,000, the world’s most lucrative prize for young architects. The award, initiated by the Marcus Corporation Foundation and administered by the Milwaukee School of Architecture, recognizes a budding architectural practice ‘on a trajectory to greatness’. According to Robert Greenstreet, Dean of the Milwaukee School of Architecture, the idea “is to find people of the caliber of Santiago Calatrava” who prior to becoming an ‘international superstar’ built a winged museum in Milwaukee. While avoiding any comment on Calatrava or his winged buildings, it does seem like a startling coincidence that the award be called the Marcus Prize. Could it be a prophecy for the trajectory of Super Colossal’s own Marcus Trimble?
